Director's Cut

Hi my name is Peter Lough. I’m in my tenth year as a member of Fenlanders and had the honor of taking over as Chapter Director of Fenlanders HOG in December 2007 when Roger (Stearn) decided to call it a day and stand down as the longest serving Chapter Director in HOG UK, having served for the past 15 years.

Fenlanders was established in December 1991 the sponsoring dealer being Classic Harley Davidson located at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, with the demise of Classic Harley a few years later and the opening of Black Bear HD in 1996, Black Bear took over the reigns as the club’s sponsoring dealership and has now seen both Black Bear and Fenlanders HOG grow and become more successful year on year.

The club now boasts in excess of 240 members all of whom are full members of HOG and ride Harley’s not forgetting their partners and associate members which bring the total up to in excess of 380 members. Our monthly Chapter meeting is held on the 1st Sunday of each month at the Crown pub in the village of Mundford near Thetford, Norfolk and starts around 12.00.

As you would expect our club and committee are passionate about riding, part of the make up of our committees is our Senior Road Captain and 4 x Regional Road Captains who put together a comprehensive riding calendar each year, we try to average around 6 main club rideouts each year, where the club get together and ride to an event like the GOSH run into London last year, the parade of bikes we take into the local seaside resort during our annual rally, or sometimes just a lunch meet in the summer, as you can imagine 200 or so bikes take a lot of organization. The club also organizes smaller group rides into Europe on champagne and battlefield tours and not forgetting the European HOG rallies so there is always a lot going on.

As the club covers the whole of East Anglia and to ensure activity and things to do in all area’s, we also hold regional rideouts on a monthly basis, during the so called summer months these take the form of meeting at a local meeting point, rideout for an hour or so and end up in a watering hole for a pie and a pint, or an a La Carte meal dependant on what road captain you are with… During the winter months we retreat to a local hostelry and meet for a social night where some of the more hardy members of the club still bring their bikes. These meets are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month at Mundford and 3rd Friday of the month for Norwich and Ipswich. Timings, location and details of which are on this website.

Our main event of the year is our rally, this year will be our 16th and as usual will be held at Fakenham racecourse, Fakenham in Norfolk, our rally is always held on the last weekend of July and has been so successful it has grown to be a 4 day event, starting midday on the Thursday and finishing on the Sunday. It includes various events and activities such as Rideouts, Chapter competitions, Live bands, Disco’s, trade and food stalls, etc. The racecourse is ideally suited for our needs and has an excellent secure campsite with good toilet and shower facilities, bar’s and restaurants. Other events the chapter holds throughout the year include a winter ball normally held around February time, and a beach party normally held around August time.

We are a non-profit making organization, any profits made by the club are donated to charity. This year (2008) the charities we are supporting are The East Anglian Air Ambulance and EACH (East Anglian Children’s Hospices).

I hope you enjoy this web site, as a lot of hard work goes into it, as does the running of the club, which is wholly down to the hard work of all the members of the committee. If you ride a Harley and you are not a member of any club, feel free to come and meet us at one of our club meetings, we have a new members rep who will be happy to welcome you, show you around and introduce you to other members.

Looking forward to meeting you in the future………

Ride Safe
